Only twice in the history of the United States, has American been truly divided. Once during the US Civil War (1861-1865), then again during the Vietnam War (1961-1975). Both war's pitted family members against family members; both war's led to bloody riots and shootings (Kent State). Both war's had violent draft resisters. The political situation in the US was anti-war/anti-draft vs the establishment.
