--Went on the official site and the ingredients for her original formula (NOW known as 'Madame Walker’s Hair and Scalp Preparation') is the following:
Ingredients: Petrolatum, Copper Sulfate, Precipitated Sulfur, Coconut Oil, Beeswax, Fragrance.
Also, according to that website (www.madamewalker.net/Home/WalkerPetrolatumBasedProducts/tabid/566/Default.aspx), they claim that petrolatum is not only good for the hair and scalp, but does NOT clog the pores or the scalp or face. Cannot attest to this claim, but I am willing to try it to see if it works.
Madam C.J. Walker's Wonderful Hair Grower contained petrolatum, beeswax, and a blend of essential oils such as coconut oil, olive oil, and lanolin. These ingredients were believed to nourish the scalp and promote hair growth. The formula was a key component of Madam C.J. Walker's successful hair care business in the early 20th century.
