Because they needed to go buffalo hunting
Many Plains Nations are nomadic people's that follow the natural migrations of the wild buffalo herds. They would follow the herds and pick locations that were near the herds. They also choose places that would be suitiable for each season, south for winter months and north for summer months.
The four major and largest Native American groups in the US are the Navajo, Cherokee, Sioux, and Chippewa. The Navajo have about 308,013 members, the Cherokee 285,476, Sioux 131,048, and the Chippewa 115,859.
