The Conscription issue split Canada by separating different groups. Farmers didn't want their sons/hired men to join the army, because they wouldn't have enough workers. Industrial workers also opposed conscription. Opposition in Quebec was the strongest, however. The predominantly English-speaking population felt that it was their duty to fight in the war, and condemned the French-Canadians, portraying them as a 'foul blot' on the country. Tensions were high, and there were many violent demonstrations. A historian described the following election:
"More than any other single event, it split Canada into two nations... . The effects of that Khaki Election continue to haunt us today."
The labor party of WW1 was split because the leader Billy Hughes was a very big fan of the idea of conscription (men being forced into the armed forces so as not to loose the war from lack of soldiers) Many people in the party (and in australia) were horrified by the idea, infact australia was almost divided in half. Those who supported conscription followed Mr huges and with that suport Billy Hughes created his own party and Introduced conscription of soldiers to fight on the australian fronts. He wanted more but didn't want to loose his place in leading australia.

Mackenzie King
Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King addressed the conscription issue during World War II by initially promising not to impose conscription for overseas service, reflecting the strong anti-conscription sentiment in Canada. However, as the war progressed and casualty rates increased, he faced mounting pressure. In 1944, he eventually introduced a limited conscription policy, which allowed for the conscription of soldiers for overseas service, but emphasized that it would be used only if necessary. This decision was controversial and led to significant political and social tensions within the country.

The conscription issue primarily took place in various countries during times of war, most notably during World War I and World War II. In the United States, the Selective Service Act was enacted to draft soldiers for military service. Other countries, including Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, also implemented conscription during these conflicts. The debate over conscription often sparked significant political and social controversy, reflecting differing views on individual rights and national duty.
There are many cons, for one, trying to pass conscription laws was very hard and caused stress for Canada's leaders at the time.
