It occurred when they were invaded...
Between 1910 and 1960, roughly. The states were given authority over he Aboriginal people living within them and restricted their movements, among other things. Each state ceased the practice of forcibly removing Aboriginal children from their parents around the 60s but not all at once. Between 1/10 and 1/3 of children were taken often to be trained as servants. WA ceased this in 1960, they were allowed to vote in 62 and in 1968 we voted in a referrendum allowing them to be counted as people in the next census. Enlightened times. So that pretty much put a stop to all the kidnapping.
Australia had a period in its history when the white inhabitants of the country (mostly British by decent) decided that a good way to settle the property problems they were facing with the indigenous inhabitants of Australia was to destroy their culture by interfering with its continuity. To this end they simply enacted legislation that legalised the abduction of their children. These were then put into white foster homes and supposedly raised under so called civilised conditions. the reality was that many were the victims of abuse that the Australian government is still trying to sweep under the carpet. Many young people were literally stolen from their parents and there was nothing they could do about it.

If they wern't then as soon as they ewre able to conseve then they were forced to have kids to white men in order to "breed the aborigine out of them"
the policy between 1880 - 1960 which attempted to acculturate Australian aboriginal children
The Stolen Generation did occur because someone failed to take responsibility and passed on the buck. The government, the parents and the society are the people who led to the occurrence of the Stolen Generation.
