With his wife Maria Theresia of Spain he had the following children: Louis (1 November 1661 - 14 April 1711), better known as le Grand Dauphin. Anne-Élisabeth (18 November 1662 - 30 December 1662). Louis-Frans (14 June 1672 - 4 November 1672), duke of Anjou.

With his mistress Madame de Montespan he had 7 children:

Louise Françoise (1669 - 1672) Louis Auguste (31 March 1670 - 14 May 1736), count and duke of Maine. Louis César (1672 - 10 January 1683), count of Vexin Louise Françoise (1 June 1673 - 16 June 1743), married to Louis III, prince of Condé.
