The positive effects were that the explorers gained wealth and fame; they were able to bring back new items to their home country; they were able to bring back large quantities of spices, silver, etc.; and new trade routes were developed. The negative effects were that explorers were at risk of death; if the trip failed a lot of money would be wasted; and there were risks that the explorers could bring diseases back to their home countries.
Cortez de Soto and Cabeza de Vaca were both Spanish explorers. They had an expedition from Spain to North and South America.

Oh, dude, in 1542, European explorers were probably doing European explorer things, like sailing around, claiming land, and probably getting lost a lot. I mean, it was the 16th century, so they were basically the GPS of their time, but with more scurvy. Like, they were out there discovering new lands and cultures, but also causing a whole lot of trouble along the way.
