The year 1066 was a very important period in European history. This was the year of the Norman invasion of England. King Edward dies. William of Normandy battles Harold Godwinson for the throne. William defeats Harold at The Battle of Hastings. William the Conqueror becomes King of England.

It depends on where you are talking about; however if it is King William: He

wanted to raise money in his new kingdom, so he made the Saxons pay taxes. In 1086 he ordered a survey and his men went all over the country writing down exactly what everyone owned in land, cattle, crops and tools so that he knew exactly how much people could pay. When all the information had been collected, it was written down and is known as the Domesday Book.

William the conqueror gave England the doomsday book. he wrote down everyone in the country and taxed them of how much land they had and their livestock. if u didn't pay your land was taken off you.
