Nicholas II's sisters, were; Xenia Alexandrovna b. 1875 and Olga Alexandrovna b. 1881. Both sisters were principal players in the twilight of the Russian Empire. Xenia married her first cousin Alexander Michaelovich. The union produced numerous children most famously, Irina, who married Felix Yussopov. Yussopov, richer than the tsars, orchestrated the murder of Rasputin. Empress Alexandra's "mad monk". Olga was forced into an unhappy marriage with a distant cousin of the Romanovs; Prince Peter of Oldenburg. While neither marriage was to sustain the horrors of the revolution and life as exiles, Grand Duchess' Xenia and Olga both escaped Russia along with their mother Empress Marie Feodorovna in 1917 aboard a British cruiser from the Crimean port of Yalta. The sisters life in exile was, for the most part, uneventful. Grand Duchess Olga lived in Denmark with her Mother, the Dowager Empress. Granted a divorce from her unhappy union with Peter of Olderburg shortly before the revolution. Olga married a Russian Calvary officer and had two sons. They lived in happy isolation on a small farm outside Copenhagen. Olga played a brief role in the Anna Anderson saga in the late nineteen -twenties and then faded in to history. She died above a barbershop in Toronto, Canada in 1959. Grand Duchess Xenia, once the darling of Imperial society, lived out her final years in a "grace and favour" cottage on the grounds of Hampton Court Palace in England, subsidized by her British royal relations including the present Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
