July 1, 1967, was celebrated as Canada's Centennial. It marked the 100th anniversary of Canada's Confederation.
It was invented in 1967 in order to encourage the flow of skilled migrants. In order to become a permanent resident, you must have 67 points. The points are given for education, language (English or french) work experience, age, employment in Canada (whether you have a job waiting for you, etc) and adaptability (how well will you be able to adapt to Canadian culture)
