The French settled in Green Bay, Baton Rouge, Detroit, New Orleans, and St. Louis among other places. In addition to the settlements they built in the US, they also established forts in Canada, mostly in Montreal and Quebec.

In was near baton Rouge. Louis Petitpas was the leader of this small group. From Acadia (Nova Scotia) Louis went to Louisiana to escape English rule. He fought aginst Indian raids for most of his life there. He died in 1767, at the age of seventy.
