King John of England married twice.

His first wife was Isabel, Countess of Gloucester, born 1173, died 14 October 1217. The marriage took place on 29 August 1189

Because they were both great-grandchildren of King Henry I, and thus second cousins, the marriage was annulled by the then Archbishop of Canterbury.

The annulment was reversed by Pope Clement III who gave permission to marry but forbade the couple having sex.

In August 1189, shortly after becoming King, John himself declared the marriage null; the annulment was approved by the Bishops of Lisieux, Bayeux and Avranche.

In 1200 he married Isabella of Angouleme, a member of the French Royal family.

They had five children including the later heir to the English crown, Henry III.

King John died in October 1216.

In 1220 Isabella married Hugh X of Lusignan to whom she had been betrothed before her marriage to King John, and she died 0n 31 May 1246.
King John's first wife was Isabel of Gloucester, who was the daughter and heiress of William Fitz Robert, 2nd Earl of Gloucester. They were married in 1189, but King John had the marriage annulled on the grounds that he and Isabel were blood relatives. John was again married on 24 August 1200. He wed the 20-year younger Isabella of Angoulême. Isabella was the daughter of Aymer Taillefer, Count of Angouleme. It should be noted that John was betrothed in childhood to Alais ("Alice"), the daughter and heiress of Humbert III of Savoy, but they never married. A link can be found below for more information.
