Actually, it has nothing to do with females/males at the time. It's all about the root words! History originally comes from the Proto-Indian word "weid" meaning to know, and the takced on "tor" meaning one (as in a person). So, wed-tor in Ancient times was taken as "the one who could see", but more literally "wise one" or "judge".

So, as all of this word forming was happening, in Greece, they translated it into their language as hid-tor, which meant "inquirer" and eventually historia was the work that a hid-tor would seek.

SO, around the 15th century, Francis Bacon took the word historia and applied it to sum up past events, and THUS... History was born.
