The war was held in America so we had home field advantage (it cost people across an ocean much, much more in order to wage war abroad). In addition, our partnership with the French was pivotal in winning the war. Benjamin Franklin was able to convince the french to join the war after the battle of Trenton.

The Americans had a number of benefits that aided them in winning the

Revolution. They were fighting on home soil, they were fighting for their

homes and families, their supplies were closer, they had an exceptional

leader, George Washington, and they had the help of France.

The colonists had several advantages during the American Revolution. For one thing, the colonists knew the land far better than the British, and could use this to their tactical advantage. Also, the colonists were fighting on principle, while the British were fighting because they were ordered to.

The advantages the colonists had were, • they were fighting on their own ground. • they had soldiers who were fighting for their freedom for Britain(men from colonies) • they had George Washington as their leader. • they had great determination. • & they had food close by.

One advantage is that many of the colonists fought in their own backyard so to speak. So they knew the area well. They also had a lot personally at stake. Ben Franklin said: "we must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately" They knew that if they failed all of the leaders of the revolution would be rounded up and executed one by one.

The british troops were from Europe and the territory was not as familiar to them they also had less personally at stake to say the least (some were hired Germans).

Another big advantage for the colonists was that they were there to win at all costs, they were flexible - anything they could think of to win. The British were a formal military who fought in a more formal ridgid way.

The people who organized the revolution were some of the brightest minds of the time.

Also, the colonists had George Washington, his persistance under the most desperate circumstances is something that cannot be overlooked. During two treacherous winters many troops had no shoes, low supplies and wanted to desert (thomas Paine said "these are the times that try men's souls"). The fact that Washington was able to keep the troops together was remarkable. It was a rag tag army against the mightiest, best funded, well fed military force in the world.

Human desire is an incredible force that can overcome a lot of obstacles.

ANSWER:

The most important factor that the Americans had on their side was distance. A huge ocean separated them from Great Britain. The British had to ship arms and armies over this wide stretch of water, which was a very expensive undertaking. In the end this distance, as much as anything else, defeated the British.

Distance was an important factor within the colonies, too. American generals could retreat over vast, sparsely settled landscape without yielding anything of importance. British armies marched and conquered and found themselves controlling nothing but the soil beneath their feet, while the hostile wilderness closed in behind them.

America only won the war because they had the aid of the Dutch and the French. The British was fighting on many battlefronts in Europe in Russia, France, Asia and even Africa, while America was the longist away meaning new troops was hard to send there.

Back to the main answear, the French and Dutch was your biggest, if your only advantage.
