The call came out, for "...more men!", after 500,000 men, we thought we could win. We saw the "handwriting on the wall" during the TET offensive of 1968; and prepared to get serious about with drawing from Vietnam.

The very same US Military men that fought in WWII, were leading GIs in Vietnam; they won WWII with Firepower! And they believed in firepower. And they believed that they could defeat the communists with firepower. And so we used firepower until we withdrew from the war...firepower....firepower

We thought we could win the war. The next year, we thought we could win. Then next year. We'd try something new, see if it would work, it didn't; so we thought maybe next year. After the TET offensive in 1968, the handwriting was now on the wall. We made plans to withdraw.
